There is a wealth of information on all legal issues that can be found through search engines such as Google, which has an additional advantage in that you can limit the domaine to .gov. Often, the full text of laws, the history of major legal discussions, specific citations and even full text articles on law matters, and a host of other legal concerns can be found by entering key terms on the search line(s). Search engines also provide easy verification of citations, abbreviations, definitions, and general information that can be used to search licensed databases such as LexisNexis. The same type of searches can be limited to individual states and smaller political entities. Web searches can also be focused specifically on legal and governmental organizations.
Guide to Law OnlineThe Guide to Law Online, prepared by the U.S.Law Library of Congress Public Services Division, is an annotated guide to sources of information on government and law available online. It includes selected links to useful and reliable sites for legal information. There are four categories: International and multinational law, law of the nations of the world, Federal law including the U.S. Code and Constitution links, and all U.S. states and territories.
Law Library of Congress--Michigan The Michigan online guide to law is taken from the Guide to Law Online and is divided into six parts: Constitution, Executive, Judiciary, Legislature, Legal Guides and Miscellaneous, and General Sources. Direct links are listed under each with several research guides included.
lawyers.comlawyers.com is a comprehensive site that provides, first of all, access to articles, law message boards and other legal research resources organized by topics such as consumer law, finance, military law, toxic torts, and many more. In addition, there are sections on attorney/client relationships, lawsuits and litigation, state law and agencies, federal law and agencies, and legal forms. The site also allows you to search for lawyers expert in a given community in special legal areas, e.g., estate planning.
FindLaw An extensive source for case law (state and federal), administrative law, constitutional law, consumer law, directories, legal news, and other law related references. Useful for legal professionals, students, the general public, and corporate counsels.
Legal Information Institute [Cornell University Law School]An extensive site that provides information on Constitutions and codes, court opinions, law by source of jurisdiction, and a topical section ("Law About ...") that covers areas such as commerical transactions, intellectual property, the legal practice, international law, and other focused legal areas.
LexisNexis Martindale-Hubbell The Martindale-Hubbell home page that is part of LexisNexis emphasizes its Lawyer Locator feature, but also has several other searches including legal articles, peer review ratings, dispute resolution, legal careers, professional reources, and popular article links, among others.
WWW Virtual Library -- The LawHosted by Indiana University School of Law at Bloomington, this site contains a search engine for the field of law, along with a browsable subject index.
