This guide lists, in approximate priority order, indexes useful to locate literary criticism, the technical name for interpretations of literary works, such as novels, short stories, poetry, and drama.A list of "article indexes" follows the list of literary criticism resources because students of literature may also be interested in locating research about the larger historical and cultural contexts in which literature is written. These indexes list primarily journal articles (some of these also index essays in books and one indexes dissertations) and are listed in approximate priority order, with the most frequently used indexes first. Their titles suggest the subjects they cover. Students may need to use more than one of these indexes to search for pertinent articles. In some cases the indexes not only cite articles we own in print but also in electronic full-text. In other cases, however, we won't own the journal at all and you will need to request a copy of the article you want through Interlibrary Loan.
