De Grummond Children's Literature CollectionHoused at the McCain Library at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, this is one of the leading research centers in the field of children's literature. The collection has original manuscripts and illustrations by more than 1,200 authors and illustrators, and more than 70,000 children's books published since 1530.
Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book ArtLocated adjacent to Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts, "the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art is the first full-scale museum in America devoted to national and international picture book art, conceived and built with the aim of celebrating the art that we are first exposed to as children."
Mazza Museum: International Art from Picture BooksFounded in 1982 and located at the University of Findlay in Ohio, the mission of the Mazza Museum is to "promote literacy by providing educational programs for children and adults...utilizing its preeminent collection of original art from children's books." The museum owns original art by a representative group of children's authors and illustrators.
National Center for Children's Illustrated LiteratureThis museum opened its doors in 2002 in Abiline, Texas, and its mission is to promote literacy and to increase appreciation of picture book art. Collections of works by particular artists are on display for several months at a time, while other exhibits tour the nation's museums, libraries and universities.
Northeast Children's Literature Collection Part of the University of Connecticut in Storrs, this collection contains books, illustrations, manuscripts, correspondence and artifacts relating to children's literature. Its purpose is make available historically and artistically significant works of children's literature.
Rutgers Collection of Original Illustrations for Children's LiteratureMaintained by Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey in New Brunswick, this special collection includes more than 4,000 illustrations, preparatory sketches, books and manuscripts by more than 100 artists, spanning from the 1920s to the present day. This collection acquires materials, such as notes and sketches, that demonstrate how a picture book is created from start to finish.
