WestCat open access WestCat is WMU's online library catalog. It can be used to identify books (including online books), government documents, journals, videos, sound recordings, slides and other items that the University Libraries has in its collections. WestCat can be searched by title, author, subject heading, keyword, call number, and more.

Chemistry Call Numbers
Chemistry books are arranged by call numbers into the following main categories:
QD 1-65 General
QD 71-142 Analytical Chemistry
QD 146-196 Inorganic Chemistry
QD 241-441 Organic Chemistry
QD 415-431.7 Biological Chemistry
QD 450-731 Physical and Theoretical Chemistry
QD 901-999 Crystallography
In addition:
RA1190-1270 Toxicology and Poisons
TD 172-199 Environmental Pollution
TP Chemical Technology
also contain Chemical information.

You can perform a virtual browse of the shelves by entering (or clicking on) a pertinent call number in WestCat and moving through the screens.

WorldCat restricted Comprehensive catalog of books and other materials in libraries around the world. Contains millions of records in hundreds of languages. Nonbook materials include (among other publication formats) the titles of journals and magazines, manuscripts, maps, electronic resources, websites, computer programs, musical scores, films, slides, sound recordings, conference proceedings, and videotapes. Items located through WorldCat must be requested through Interlibrary Loan unless they are also listed in the WMU libraries catalog, WestCat.

Catalogs of Other LibrariesThe library catalogs of many colleges, universities and local libraries can be searched online. They may be useful in finding materials our Libraries don't own. You may then decide to request these materials through interlibrary loan.

Librarian's Comment: MSU is the closest library with a larger Chemistry collection than WMU for those willing to make the trip.

Searchpath TutorialThis interactive library skills tutorial covers the research process from start (broadening or narrowing a topic) to finish (citation styles) and includes practice searching on WestCat, an article index, and the Web.
Searchpath is divided into six modules, each of which takes 10-15 minutes to complete. Each ends with a quiz, and the quiz results may be emailed to your professor or saved within Searchpath as proof of completion. If you want Searchpath to save your quiz results, you must use the link above to enter, and login as a First Time User. If you leave and later come back to the tutorial, login as Return User. Check with your instructor if the class and instructor's name is not listed.
