Dictionaries commonly provide definitions to the words and phrases of a field. Some also include brief biographical sketches and useful tables and chronologies. Encyclopedias introduce concepts and a general overview of a subject. Most encyclopedias have lengthy articles prepared by scholars in the profession and cite key books and articles on the subject. Many encyclopedias also contain biographical portraits.
The Dictionary of Anthropology GN307 .D485 1997 (Ref) This dictionary's well-written, signed entries (about 500) with cross references by anthropologists includes topics in cultural anthropology and related topics in archaeology, biological anthropology, and linguistics. Encyclopedia of Anthropology
