Catalog of US Government Publications: The
Catalog is a search and retrieval service that provides bibliographic records
of US Government information products. Use it to link to Federal agency online
resources or identify materials distributed to Federal Depository Libraries.
Coverage begins with January 1994 and new records are added daily. New
Electronic Titles contains online titles that are the latest entries in the
Catalog or are in the queue to be added to it.

GPO Databases
Budget of the United States Government The
Budget of the United States Government is available online via GPO Access in
various formats. It contains A Citizen's Guide to the Federal Budget, the Economic
Report of the President, Analytical Perspectives, Historical Tables and other
supplements from 1996 on, searchable from 1997.
Code of Federal Regulations The
Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) is the codification of the general and permanent
rules published in the Federal Register by the Executive Department and agencies
of the Federal Government.
Commerce Business Daily The
Commerce Business Daily (CBD) lists notices of proposed government procurement
actions, contract awards, sales of government property, and other procurement
information. Each notice appears in the print CBD (available in the Documents
Department, Waldo Library) only once. Notices stay "active" in the
CBD database online via GPO Access for 15 days and are then moved to an "archived" database.
Each notice is available as an ASCII text file. The database is updated continuously.
Congressional Bills All
published versions of bills since the 103rd Congress (1993-1994) are available.
The database is updated by 6 a.m. daily when bills are published and approved
for release.
Congressional Calendars The
House Calendar contains a history of both House and Senate bills and resolutions
that have been reported or considered by either house. Every week an index is
published. The Senate Calendar contains
a listing of daily Senate activities and Senate committee membership. GPO Access
contains the daily issues of the House Calendar and the Senate Calendar for the
current session of Congress, as well as the final calendars for the previous
sessions of Congress back to the 104th Congress.
Congressional
Directory The Congressional Directory is the official directory of the US
Congress. It presents short bibliographies of each Member of the Senate and the
House, listed by States and Districts respectively, includes additional data
such as his/her committee memberships, terms of service, administrative assistant
and/or secretary, room and telephone numbers. It also lists officials of the
courts, the military establishments and other Federal departments and agencies,
including the D.C. Government; Governors of States and Territories; foreign diplomats;
and members of the press, radio, and television galleries.
Congressional Documents The
Congressional Documents database contains selected House, Senate and Treaty Documents
for the 104th Congress (1995-1996) forward. These "documents" consist
of anything that either house orders to be printed.
Congressional Record Index (CRI) Searches
just the index to the Congressional Record from 1983 forward. The database is
updated daily, usually the day after publication of the Record.
Congressional Record This
database contains the daily issues of the Congressional Record. It is the official
record of the proceedings and debates of the United States Congress. It is updated
between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. EST each day the Congressional Record is published,
depending on when Congress adjourned the previous day. The daily issues of the
Congressional Record since the 103rd Congress, 2nd Session (1994) are available.
Congressional Reports The
Congressional Reports database contains a selection of House, Senate and Executive
Reports from 1995 to the present. A "Catalog of Available Reports" is
provided online which lists all reports currently available via GPO Access. This
database is updated irregularly as electronic versions become available.
Constitution
of the United States of America & Annotated Supplement This database
contains Senate Document 103-6, "The Constitution of the United States of
America; Analysis and Interpretation" which contains both the literal print
of the Constitution of the United States of America and annotations of cases
decided by the Supreme Court of the United States to June 29, 1992. The 1996
and 1998 Supplements provide updates. Prepared by the Library of Congress, Congressional
Research Service.
Davis-Bacon Wage Determinations Identifies
the prevailing wage rates to be paid on federally funded or assisted construction
projects.
Economic Indicators The
Economic Indicators database contains Economic Indicators from April 1995 forward.
The Economic Indicators are prepared for the Joint Economic Committee by the
Council of Economic Advisors and published monthly. The database is updated monthly.
Economic Report of the President The
Economic Report of the President is transmitted to Congress no later than ten
days after the submission of the budget. The Report includes: (1) current and
foreseeable trends and annual numerical goals concerning topics such as employment,
unemployment, production, real income and Federal budget outlays; (2) employment
objectives for significant groups of the labor force: (3) annual numeric goals;
and (4) a program for carrying out program objectives. Supplementary reports
can be issued to the Congress which contain additional and/or revised recommendations.
This is available as a (PDF) file. Previous reports are under prior
budgets.
Federal Register The database is
updated by 6:00 a.m., EST each day the Federal Register is published. All information
in the Federal Register is included: Notices, Rules, Proposed Rules, Presidential
Documents, Table of Contents, Preliminary Information, List
of the CFR Parts Affected and other Reader Aids. The Unified Agenda (Semiannual
Regulatory Agenda) is available as a separate database. Coverage from 1994 to
present.
GAO Comptroller General Decisions The
database, sponsored by the US General Accounting Office (GAO), contains decisions
made by the Comptroller General in the areas of Federal law such as; appropriations;
bid protests; civilian or military personnel pay and allowances; household goods
and freight loss damage; transportation rates, etc. The database includes decisions
from October 1995 forward and is updated within two business days after decisions
are released.
GAO Reports This database
contains the General Accounting Office's (GAO) "blue book" reports
which are available within two business days after public release. The reports
contain GAO's findings and recommendations to members of Congress or to congressional
committees. Restricted and classified products, as well as correspondence, are
not included in this database. Coverage from October 1994 to present. Updated
daily.
Government Information
Locator Service The Government Information Locator Service (GILS) databases
contain records to identify public information resources throughout the Federal
government, describe information available in those sources, and provide assistance
in obtaining information. GILS core records describe the GILS record holdings
of a particular agency. Pathway GILS records are provided as a service for Federal
Depository Libraries to identify, describe, and link to other government information.
They emphasize the subject content and publications of an agency. Agencies update
their records on an irregular basis.
History of Bills and Resolutions The
History of Bills and Resolutions is a section of the Congressional Record Index
that provides information about all bills and resolutions introduced during a
Congress. The database is updated daily, usually the day after publication of
the record. Information is available from 1983 forward. Entries for each bill
include actions that are reported in the Congressional Record and reference issue
and date and pages where the action is reported.
House Rules and Manual The House
Rules and Manual online via GPO Access contains the revised edition of the Rules
and Manual of the House of Representatives for the current Congress. The House
Rules Manual contains the fundamental source material for parliamentary procedure
used in the House of Representatives; the Constitution of the United States;
applicable provisions of Jefferson's Manual; rules of the House; pertinent decisions
of the Speakers and other presiding officers of the procedural authority used
in the House of Representatives.
List of CFR Sections Affected Volumes
of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR)
are published over the course of a year. The regulatory process, on the other
hand, is ongoing with new regulations being published in the daily Federal
Register. The List of CFR Sections Affected reports which parts of the CFR
have been altered (changed, added, revoked, etc.) by actions reported in the
Federal Register. Users need to consult the List of CFR Sections Affected as
a matter of course to be sure that the information they find in the CFR is current.
The List of CFR sections Affected is kept up to date by the similarly named list
that appears in each issue of the Federal Register.
Privacy
Act Issuances, Compilations The Privacy Act Issuances, 1995, 1997 and 1999
Compilations Online via GPO Access contain descriptions of Federal agency systems
of records maintained on individuals and rules agencies follow to assist individuals
who request information about their records.
Public Laws The
Public Laws database is a collection of laws enacted since the 104th Congress.
The header of each section indicates when a recent Public Law affects that particular
section but the text remains unchanged until the annual revision cycle. Prepared
and published by the Office of the Federal Register (OFR), National Archives
and Records Administration, each law is first published as a slip law and then
later compiled into a volume of the Statutes at Large. The Public Laws database
contains the text of each law enacted, and is updated irregularly as the publication
of a slip law is authorized by the OFR.
Public Papers
of the Presidents This compiles the documents produced during a presidency.
These include nominations, speeches, statements, remarks, news conferences, official
correspondence, and messages to Congress. This material appears first in the Weekly
Compilation of Presidential Documents.
Senate Manual The Senate Manual
contains the standing rules, orders, laws, and resolutions affecting the business
of the United States Senate. It is released by the Senate Committee on Rules
and Administration.
Supreme Court Decisions
(1937-1975) The Supreme Court Decisions contain the full text of decisions
issued between 1937 and 1975.The database is made available to the public as
a finding aid to the "official" version in the United States Reports,
therefore, GPO does not guarantee the authenticity or completeness of the data.
The most recent opinions can be found on the Supreme
Court - Opinions site. A searchable collection of decisions from 1893 is
offered by FindLaw.
Unified Agenda Published twice
a year in April and October issues of the Federal
Register, the Unified Agenda announces the regulatory intentions of Federal
agencies. This is usually the first place that the intent to regulate is announced.
The Unified Agenda is a special section of the Federal Register and is a separate
database in GPO Access.
United States Code The United
States Code contains the general and permanent laws of the United States. These
are seachable and browsable. 1994 plus Supplements.
United
States Government Manual The Government Manual database contains the United
States Government Manual, from 1995/1996 forward. The Manual is a directory of
the Executive Branch of the Federal Government. This manual is prepared by the
National Archives and Records Administration, Office of the Federal Register.
United States Government
Online Bookstore The official online bookstore from the US Government Printing
Office, formerly known as the GPO Sales Catalog.
Weekly Compilation of Presidential
Document s Contains the official messages, speeches and other materials issued
over the previous week. It is released on Mondays. Material in this source is
compiled into the Public
Papers of the Presidents.
