Collections at the Education Library
Professional Journals and Books
The Education Library collection consists of over 50,000 volumes in the education discipline, including education administration, teaching & learning, counseling, teacher education, special education, and physical education. Elementary and high school text books and over 800 professional journal titles are also housed in the Education Library.
ERIC Documents
Over 400,000 documents make up the ERIC (Educational Resource Information Center) microfiche collection. A wide variety of materials are included in the collection including program evaluations, teaching and curriculum guides, and research reports. Library users may make paper copies of microfiche documents for a nominal fee. The ERIC database available on the FirstSearch system permits users to conduct their own online ERIC database searches.
Reference Collections
This collection includes directories of educational institutions including public and private schools and institutions of higher education. Specialized handbooks and encyclopedias in school law, teaching, educational research, special education, counseling, and children's literature. Other specialized materials include the Physical Education Index and a variety of other reference materials related to the education discipline. These materials may not leave the library.
Reserve Materials
Faculty in the College of Education and those teaching classes in Sangren Hall may place personal and library materials on reserve for use by their students. Telephone the Reserve Collection Coordinator at 387-5232 for information and reserve collection policies.
Curriculum Enrichment
This collection consists of books for children and young adults, including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and picture books. These materials are ideal for enriching classroom teaching.
Educational Testing Service (ETS): Tests on Microfiche
A collection of unpublished tests reproduced on microfiche. These tests have been developed by organizations, educators and psychologists in the United States. The collection covers a wide range of topics including instruments which measure attitudes, skills, and behavior. The index to ETS Microfiche Collection is available in the Education Library or through the ERIC Clearinghouse on Assessment via the Internet.
Elementary/High School Textbooks
A collection consisting of elementary and high school textbooks and textbook series currently used in U.S. schools. Included are textbooks in reading, social studies, arithmetic, language arts, science, and foreign language study. All items in this collection are designated by an "LT" call number.
