Dr. Sharon Peterson

Biography

Dr. Sharon Peterson (Ph.D.) is a Faculty Specialist II in the Department of Educational Leadership, Research and Technology (ELRT). She teaches courses in instructional design, educational technology, online learning, and instructional leadership. Dr. Peterson has developed and taught both online and on campus courses for the Educational and Instructional Technology Program since 2003. During that time, she has developed, organized, managed and taught EDT3470, a required technology methods course for all Elementary and Special Education pre-service teachers. Dr. Peterson has served as ELRT’s representative on the Curriculum Committee for several years and was at the forefront of the use of WMU’s course management system, Desire2Learn, when WMU changed to this course management system in 2011. She was one of the professors piloting the new management system. Dr. Peterson began teaching in Elementary Education in 19990, after graduating from WMU. During that time, Dr. Peterson worked with students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade with most of her years with Kindergarten students. During her years in elementary education, she was involved in writing and receiving several technology grants with her school and acted as the computer keyperson at the building level. Dr. Peterson has been a WMU Bronco since 1986 and received her Masters of Art in Educational Technology and her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Higher Education, both from WMU.
