Leadership Development

The SALP leadership experience is designed to meet the varying levels of leadership development needs for you at WMU, whether you are the emerging leader, or the more seasoned student leader.  The Leadership programs are co-curricular, meaning that the purpose is to add experiences, opportunities, and an added dimension to your life outside of the classroom. The ultimate goal is for us to help you develop into a well-rounded leader and be able to transfer the leadership skills that you acquire to life beyond and outside of Western Michigan.

Emerging Leaders

The Emerging Leaders program is geared for first year and new transfer students. This program is ideal if you are interested in continuing your leadership skill development and/or beginning your leadership journey at WMU. August 27-31, 2012

 

First Year Experiance 

The FYE 2100 leadership section will have a particular emphasis on enhancing the college experience through leadership development and the important role that leadership plays in the college experience. Students will participate in leadership skill building activities and will have opportunities to build friendships and connections with other student leaders.

 

LEAD

Prepare yourself for the future with the LEAD series! Whether you currently involved on campus or not, you can become a better leader through these workshops.

 

 

 

Leadership Retreats

Both the Fall and Spring Leadership Retreats are two-day off-campus programs. These programs are activity focused, and include a low ropes course in the fall and a high ropes in the spring. The retreats are great ways to network with other student leaders and build on your leadership skills, no matter what level experience you have in leadership. Dates for the retreats are (fall) November 9-10, 2012 and (spring) February 15-16, 2013

 

 

 

 

Gender and Leadership Summit

The Gender and Leadership Summit is a day long professional conference with a keynote speaker and breakout sesssions. It is an opportunity for students to learn and talk about issues involving gender and leadership. This year's Summit will take place February 1, 2013

 

 

 

 

 

 

RSO Leadership Conference

The RSO Leadership Conference is geared to provide Registered Student Organizations the environment and tools necessary to collaborate, build coalitions, learn new skills and plan strategically for their RSOs. August 17-18, 2012

 

LEAD Corp

Do you want to positively impact other WMU students while gaining a wide variety of leadership experiences? LeadCorp members will assist Student Activities and Leadership Programs staff in the planning and facilitation of the Emerging Leaders program, Spring and Fall Leadership Retreats and the LEAD workshop series.
