What do I need to do to attend class at the University Center?

You will need your UCID number and your initial University Center computer logon password. Getting your SmartCard and your parking permit is recommended, but not required.

What is a UCID number?

The University Center ID number (pronounced “you-kid”) is your unique identification that will allow you to log onto campus computers and get your SmartCard.   Shortly after you register for a class at the WMU-Lansing, you will receive your UCID number and information on how to generate your password by email.

What is a SmartCard?

The SmartCard is your:

    * University Center ID
    * Student reduced rate parking card
    * LCC Library services card
    * Computer Lab Access card
    * Debit card for vending machines, printing, dining, and parking

How do I get my SmartCard?

Take a print out of your schedule, your UCID number, and a picture ID to the Parking and ID Card Office, room 215 in the Gannon Building. (See the Gannon Building (building 9) on a map). Mention that you are a WMU student who is taking classes in the University Center. They are open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and can be reached by phone at
(517) 483-1798. If you provide your license plate number to the Parking and ID staff, you can get your parking permit at the same time.

Where can I park?

With a SmartCard, WMU students will have student reduced rate parking in all of LCC's student lots as well as the N. Capital Ave. Parking Ramp. On weekdays, after 5:00 p.m., many LCC employee parking lots are open to the public. These lots, as well as many city lots, are also open and free on the weekends. All city street parking is free after 6:00 p.m. View an interactive parking map of LCC.

How do I find out where my classes are?

All WMU-Lansing classes are held in the University Center. To find out what room your class is in, either check the sign in the atrium or ask the receptionist when you walk in.

How does WMU-Lansing communicate with its students?

Each student is assigned a "wmich.edu" email address for university business. This account is easily accessed via the GoWMU portal where students can also register and drop courses, get unofficial transcripts, as well as handle most financial aid matters. It is important to check your WMU email regularly. The university uses your WMU email address as the primary point of contact, including instructors who will email you course information using this account.
