Within the curriculum of Arts and Sciences, the Department of Foreign Languages offers an undergraduate Bachelor of Arts minor in Russian. For students who began their studies at WMU prior to Fall 1996, the minor requires 20 credit hours from the classes listed above. For those who began in Fall 1996 or later, a 23-credit-hour minor is required. Only Russian courses in which a grade of "C" or better is obtained can be counted toward the minor. Any student who wishes to earn Russian credits through participation in a study abroad program, whether sponsored by WMU or another institution, should contact Dr. Dasha Nisula, 413 Sprau Tower, (269) 387-3005. A program must be approved before it is undertaken.


Minoring in Russian at WMU: Additional Information

* RUSS 1000 or first-year level counts toward the Russian Minor of 23 credits.

* WMU offers Teacher Certification in Russian.

* WMU is a member of The National Slavic Honor Society (DOBRO SLOVO), recognizing academic excellence in Slavic Studies (Language, Literature, Culture, History).

* WMU students may opt for a summer, semester or year-long Study Abroad program in Saratov or St. Petersburg, Russia.

* Russian Film Series are offered throughout the academic year.

* Russian Club has a long history at WMU. It is a registered student organization which participates in two major campus functions: Russian Festival in the fall and International Festival each spring.

* The Russian Club publishes a Newsletter, edited by the students.

* There are Russian Language Tutorials available throughout the year.
