Background
For most of her life, Dr. Steemers studied and worked in a multi-lingual environment. Although she was born in the Netherlands, she has lived in Germany and Great Britain. She also spent a great deal of time in Belgium and France prior to moving to the Unites States in 2001. While living in Europe, Dr. Steemers did translation work for the private sector, including for the European Union.
Dr. Steemers received a Bachelor’s degree in French Language and Literature and a Master’s degree in Comparative Literature, both from the University of Nijmegen in the Netherlands. In the spring of 2007 she completed a Ph.D. in French Literature and Postcolonial Theory at Michigan State University on the reception of francophone sub-Saharan literature in France. Apart from literature in general, her areas of interest include francophone literature, French culture, and business French.
