Western Michigan University offers students a multi-faceted approach to the study of German language. We believe that effective communication can only be accomplished through practice so, from the beginning level through the advanced, students of German are active classroom participants. Skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing are developed from the first class onward.

Vocabulary and grammar constitute only a part of our German program, however. The customs and beliefs of Germany and other German-speaking countries are explored in countless ways--through German literature in its original and translated forms, through films and student performances, as well as through conversation groups and university exchange programs.
