Preface to the Strategic Plan For Information Technology
As one
reads the Strategic Plan document, there are a number of assumptions,
or foundations, that the Strategic Planning Team feels are critical
to understanding the document in the proper context.
- First
and foremost, this document was the product of hundreds of
University faculty and staff, through a number of committees, as well
as a campus-wide forum. It has the support of the entire Strategic
Planning Team.
- It
is important that it be viewed as a living document; it is
only valuable if it is complete and current. This document represents
a beginning point.
- This
document represents a process rather than a set of rules and limitations.
- Within
its strategies and actions, University information technology priorities
must be established.
- Although
the document contains some strategies/actions, it does not represent
a complete list. Actions included were ones that bubbled up through
the forum and/or committee deliberations, and were to important to
allow not mention here.
- This
plan is presented as the University’s Information Technology Plan,
not the plan of the Office of Information Technology.
- This
plan is intended to serve as an institutional boilerplate; allowing
colleges and departments to align their own plans with it.
- Implementation
of the Plan requires a calendar of next steps:
- Review
of Plan by credentialed outside parties.
- Strategic
Planning Team follow-up with yearly Update forum.
- Base
funding is critical to Plan success.
- Recognition
of the varying level of needs must be considered.
