Computing

Computer Labs

OIT provides a lab for faculty members and graduate/teaching assistants. This lab, the Faculty Technology Center, is located on the second floor of the UCC. In addition, WMU provides computer labs for students throughout campus. OIT manages the two largest and busiest general purpose labs, BCC and UCC, and also provides a student multi-media facility (Student Technology Lab) located in the clock tower/bridge area of the second floor in the University Computing Center, and a small enabling technology facility (METL) in the UCC Building. All WMU labs require you to present your Bronco Card (WMU ID) in order to use the lab. For more information on computer labs at WMU, please visit the labs website.

Computer Protection

All computers being connected to WMUnet (Western's network) must have an approved anti-virus software installed and all vendor-supplied security patches applied for the operating system. WMU recommends and provides Symantec Endpoint Protection free of charge for University-owned and faculty/staff personal computers.

Computer Repair

Computer repair is a function of at TotalTech, the University's computer store, in the WMU Bookstore.

Computer Training

WMU is now offering free extensive online computer training for staff and faculty through Lynda.com. For more information please visit the online training website.

Hardware and Software Sales

Computer hardware and software for personal or departmental needs may be purchased with an educational discount at TotalTECH, WMU's campus computer store, located in the WMU Bookstore in the Bernhard Center. You may call them at (269) 387-5460 or visit the TotalTECH website.
