CTO Updates December 2015

I hope everyone had an excellent winter closure. As spring 2016 semester begins, let me take this opportunity to remind you that the Office of Information Technology is ready, willing and able to partner with you on any and all things technology related. I can be reached at tom.wolf@wmich.edu,  (269) 387-3838 or @tomwolfjr. Go Broncos!

Dr. Dunn and Delores MinshallMake a difference: Please join me in congratulating OIT's executive assistant and student employee coordinator Delores Minshall who was honored in 2015 as a WMU make a difference award winner. A positive attitude, dedication and outstanding customer service were but a few of the many reasons Delores was selected for this award. Way to go Dee, well deserved!

Google Apps for Education: Maps, Voice, Fusion Tables, Bookmarks, Analytics, and Finance applications are now part of WMU's Google Apps for Education environment. Read more about these and other applications, or contact the Help Desk at (269) 387-4357, option 1.

Filming of Bronco Review in the Dunbar Hall studios

Dunbar tailgate: In November the Office of Information Technology's media services team partnered with our culture and engagement committee to host the first annual "Dunbar tailgate". Festivities included tours of our Dunbar studios, a potluck luncheon, a live 3D animation presentation that included College of Fine Arts students and live studio audience participation (another first) during the filming of Bronco Review. Coach PJ Fleck and the voice of the Broncos, Robin Hook, earned high marks for the fantastic job they did during the broadcast.

PRTG: How many of you have a need to monitor your technology solutions? Did you know that the Office of Information Technology owns a campus site license for a feature-rich technology monitoring tool called PRTG? If you are a WMU employee and would like to know more about how PRTG works and whether or not PRTG can help meet your technology monitoring needs, please contact our production control group at (269) 387-3823.

Remind.com: Remind.com is a texting solution that was initially brought to the WMU campus by College of Engineering and Applied Sciences faculty. This flexible texting solution is used extensively throughout all levels of education and is designed specifically for education related classes, groups and clubs. Our faculty technology center understands how remind.com works and would be happy to help you incorporate this solution into your learning environment. To find out more, contact them at (269) 387-6958.

Research support: As part of a 2015 reorganization, the Office of Information Technology formalized support for WMU's third pillar, "Discovery". If you are part of WMU's diverse research community and would like to investigate the many research related services we can provide, please call (269) 387-4086.
