Steven E. Butt, PhD
 



Steven E. Butt is an Associate Professor in the Department of Industrial & Manufacturing Engineering at Western Michigan University (WMU). He holds a B.A. in Mathematics and Chemistry from Earlham College and a M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from Pennsylvania State University (Penn State). Dr. Butt is a senior research scientist at WMU's Human Performance Institute and is the faculty advisor of WMU's Graduate Operations Research Program. He currently serves as an associate editor for the International Journal of Simulation and Modeling and the news editor for the International Journal of Industrial Engineering. Dr. Butt's research interests include: Workforce & Operations Scheduling, Engineering Statistics, and Occupational Safety & Ergonomics.

Dr. Butt's research and consulting experiences have involved domestic and international projects for organizations such as the National Science Foundation, 3M Corporation, Air New Zealand, Tegel Foods, Winstone Aggregates, Stryker Medical Corporation, Bronson Methodist Hospital, and Haworth Corporation. This work has included projects in transportation, healthcare, construction, manufacturing, engineering design, and product evaluation. Dr. Butt has over 50 publications with work appearing in professional journals such as: Computers & Operations Research, European Journal of Operational Research, and Socio-Economic Planning Sciences. Dr. Butt is a member of the International Society of Occupational Ergonomics and Safety, the American Society of Engineering Education, the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences, and the Institute of Industrial Engineering.
