Currently I am writing a book, "Math and the Other Arts". There are chapters on math as an art form in its own right, math and the visual arts, math and literature, math and music. A major purpose of the book is to bridge the gulf between the two cultures: scientific and humanistic. The criteria of G. H. Hardy for creativity in math (unexpectedness, inevitability, and economy) are seen to apply to the other arts as well. The philosophy of mathematical Platonism is discussed briefly. The approach of the book is that mathematical truth is discovered (as a Petoskey stone is found on the shores of Lake Michigan), not constructed.
