HPS Research Interests
I have written on the History of the Corps of Engineers (one book, one monograph). I am currently working on a study of an important environmental controversy related to a Corps project on the upper Mississippi River. I have served on boards and committees for the Society for the History of Technology and the Public Works Historical Society.

HPS Teaching Interests
I have taught courses on the history of American technology, with an emphasis on the 19th and early 20th centuries. I have also taught a course called "Connections" which was based on the James Burke video series of the same name (European history). I participated in five summer workshops at Saint Louis University in the late 70s (I was director of the Man, Technology, and Society Program) which were interdisciplinary explorations of technology and science topics with faculty from a variety of disciplines.
