An additional section of HPER 3970 Body Composition/Weight Control has been added for the Summer II 2009 session. The new section will meet from 12-1:40PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Dr. Cheatham, Dr. Weideman, Amy Gyorkos and five graduate exercise physiology students participated at the WMU-Illinois Football Game Ford Field Expo. We had a booth at which visitors could have their body mass index, resting blood pressure, and percent body fat via BIA determined. It was a successful event and approximately 150 people visited our booth.

Internship Opportunity: Michigan Heart, P.C. is located in the Ann Arbor area. Michigan Heart offers a six month, forty hours per week internship with a $5,000 stipend paid out biweekly. We accept students working towards or have finished their Bachelors and Masters degrees from all over the world. The program involves hands on training in standard, echocardiography and nuclear testing, as well as hands-on training in all phases of cardiac rehabilitation. The practice houses over 35 cardiologist and 25 exercise physiologist who work towards developing your skills and confidence. We run over 15,000 stress test per year and have over 400 cardiac rehab patients in our program. The internship program offers observations for open heart surgery, cath lab procedures and many other areas. Our goal is to take your school knowledge to the next step and prepare you for a career in the Cardiac Rehab / Stress Testing profession. Dr. Cheatham co-authored the chapter "Laboratory and Field Techniques for Measuring Performance" for the textbook "Essentials of Sports Nutrition and Supplements" recently published by the International Society of Sports Nutrition and Humana Press.

Research Volunteers Needed: Dr. Cheatham is currently seeking volunteers for a research study entitled "Nicotine and Thermoregulation During Acute Heat Exposure". In order to be eligible to participate, volunteers must be males between the ages of 18 and 35 yrs and be current smokers or chewing tobacco users. Volunteers can earn up to $100.
