Transfer student communities Wherever you are transferring from, fantastic opportunities await you at Western Michigan University.
One of those opportunities is specialized housing tailored to the incoming transfer student experience. The residence halls have two different transfer communities, Hoekje Transfer Hall and Tenzing House. Both communities focus on easing your transition to WMU with activities to connect you with other students and the campus. Since each community is in a different hall, you can mix and match building styles and amenities to find the place that is right for you.
All residents in Hoekje Hall are incoming transfer students. Each resident lives in a single room that is provided at a discounted rate, which equals a $2,200 savings for the year. The discounted single room is unique to Hoekje and only offered for your first year at WMU. Hoekje is a traditional hall where residents on the floor share a community bathroom cleaned daily by a professional custodial staff. The rooms come with furniture that is already lofted so you can maximize your floor space. Staff members in the hall come from a variety of backgrounds, and they strive to create a positive environment with a strong sense of community.
Tenzing House is a community that grew so much it is now located in two halls, Davis Hall and French Hall. The floors are a mixture of incoming and continuing transfer students, so you’ll have neighbors around you who can relate to all the emotions and questions that come with being at a new school. Tenzing House does not offer single rooms at the discounted rate; all rooms are double occupancy. A limited number of single rooms may be available but at the full Super Single price.
Transfer students can live anywhere on campus, but those who live in our transfer communities love it. They have all the conveniences of living on campus plus the benefit of living with others who can relate to the transfer student experience. We are proud of our transfer communities, and we hope you will consider calling them home next year.
