Each room is furnished with beds and mattresses, desks and desk chairs, draperies or blinds, chest drawers, a closet or wardrobe, and lights. The specific furniture provided in each hall is listed on the hall description page. You are welcome to supplement these furnishing with your own furniture and carpeting to make your room more personal. All halls have either loftable beds or bunkable beds to accommodate additional floor space. The furniture provided by the University is not allowed to leave the residence hall.
Students bring futons, love seats, chairs, bookshelves and other items to expand their room.
Most residence hall beds are 80 inches long. We recommend purchasing twin extra long sheets.
If you’re thinking of carpet, here’s a way to make it worry-free. Order your carpet one from College Carpets by August 19, and it will be in your room when you move in ready for you to unroll. Eight different colors and a variety of sizes tailored to our residence halls are available. You can also order a WMU spirit mat in a variety of shapes and styles! Prices vary by size.
Instead of trying to pack a futon, you can order your futon online. Order by August 13 and it will be waiting in your room when you arrive. The frame and six-inch pad are $199, and the futon fits under both WMU loftable furniture and Bedloft rented lofts. Just check with your roommate so you don’t end up with two!
Most residence halls have loftable furniture in them, so the beds can be elevated to increase your floor space. Personal lofts cannot be built in those halls.
Most of WMU’s halls already have furniture in them you can loft. For those that don’t, we partnered with Bedloft for an easy-to-rent loft that will elevate your bed and increase your floor space.
Rental lofts are $129 for the academic year. The metal frame assembles quickly, and the entire bed – frame and all – fits in it. Order your loft by August 13, and the parts will be in your room to set up when you arrive.
Lofts may be built in halls without loftable furniture. Loft schematics and information about building a loft is available online.
