Canceling Your Contract

Students wishing to cancel their housing contracts must do so in writing or at the Residence Life office. A cancellation fee may apply depending on when you cancel your contract and whether or not you are still attending WMU.

Cancellation Fee Information

Enrolled and not enrolled status refers to a student's status during the terms of the 2012-13 contract. Penalties apply even if the contract is signed after June 1, 2012.

BEFORE RESIDENCE HALLS OPEN:
Fall and spring semesters
	Non-enrolled student
	Cancel through June 1, 2012	$0
	Cancel June 2 through July 31, 2012	$100
	Cancel August 1, 2012 through 5 p.m. of last business day before the halls open	$200
	Enrolled student
	Cancel through May 1, 2012	$300
	Cancel May 2 through July 31, 2012	$400
	Cancel August 1, 2012 through 5 p.m. of last business day before the halls open	$500
Spring semester only contract
	First-time not enrolled student
	Cancel anytime up to 5 p.m. of last business day before the halls open	$100
	First-time enrolled student
	Cancel anytime up to 5 p.m. of last business day before the halls open	$200
Summer I and/or Summer II session contract
	Not enrolled student
	Cancel anytime up to 5 p.m. of last business day before the halls open	$50
	Enrolled student
	Cancel anytime up to 5 p.m. of last business day before the halls open	$100
AFTER HALLS OPEN:
	Withdrawing or not enrolled student
	Assessed normal room and board costs from the official hall opening date through the effective cancellation or check out date.
	Enrolled student
	Assessed the full amount of the contract term for the 2012-13 academic year.
FAILURE TO CHECK IN:
	Not enrolled student
	Assessed a $400 cancellation fee and the reservation payment is forfeited.
	Enrolled student
	Assessed the full amount of the contract term for the 2012-13 academic year.
RETURNING RESIDENTS:
	Residents who participated in the Fall sign up procedure during the previous Spring will have to pay a cancellation fee if they opt not to return to the residence halls after submitting a signed contract. See above for details.
