Requirements
The Lee Honors College requirements are designed to help you become a distinctive student. We know that doing well academically in the field of your major will get you a job interview or considered for graduate school but what college experiences will make you the best candidate for the position? Our alumni tell us that graduating from the Lee Honors College as a distinctive student gives you an advantage over other candidates.
Freshman requirements
- Taking six honors classes over the course of your time at WMU
- Attending six cultural events during your freshman year
- Completing 80 hours of community service before you graduate
- Defending a thesis paper or project
- Maintaining a GPA of 3.5 or greater in order to graduate from the Lee Honors College
- Creating an electronic portfolio (WMU offers iWebfolio) to use for career and/or graduate applications
- Scheduling an annual appointment with an honors college advisor
- Scheduling and attending your senior audit the semester before you graduate
Transfer student requirements
- Taking a number of classes determined by the number of transfer credits
- Completing community service hours dependent on your class when you enter the Lee Honors College
- Defending a thesis paper or project
- Maintaining a GPA of 3.5 or greater in order to graduate from the Lee Honors College
- Creating an electronic portfolio (WMU offers iWebfolio) to use for career and/or graduate applications
- Scheduling an annual appointment with an honors college advisor
- Scheduling and attending your senior audit the semester before you graduate
Upon admission, you will receive a letter listing the specific requirements that apply to you. Be sure to check with a Lee Honors College advisor if you have questions about any of your requirements.
We encourage students to take advantage of study abroad experiences for which we give honors college course credit. We also give course credit for independent studies, field experiences and two semesters of a foreign language.
