
High school students who are accepted to WMU will receive an invitation to join the honors college if they have an ACT composite score of at least 26 and a GPA of 3.6. High school students who qualify will receive a letter inviting them to join the Lee Honors College within six weeks of being accepted by WMU.
If you believe you qualify and have not received an invitation, you may still be considered through our manual admit process. Students who can demonstrate a rank within the top 10% of their high school class also are welcome to join. To be considered for the honors college, please complete the LHC Application for Incoming Freshman Students
and provide two letters of reference from your teachers, instructors, professors, and/or counselors who can describe your academic ability.
The Lee Honors College welcomes all current and qualifying WMU students to consider joining the LHC community. Requirements for admission include the completion of at least one full semester at WMU, a GPA of 3.5 or greater, a completed LHC Application for Current WMU Students
, and two letters of reference from your teachers, instructors, professors, and/or counselors who can describe your academic ability. A written essay is no longer required for admission, but students must have either (a) earned a grade of "B" of better in a college-level writing course, (b) have tested out of the college-level writing course, or (c) received Advanced Placement credit accepted by WMU as the equivalent of a college-level writing course.
Exceptions to this policy including special situations and extenuating circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the college academic advisor in consultation with the dean of the honors college as needed.
The Lee Honors College welcomes qualified community college graduates and students as well as students transferring to WMU from another college or university to consider joining the Lee Honors College community. There are two categories of LHC transfer students: those who are transferring from a community college with which the LHC has an articulation agreement and those who are transferring from any other community college, university or college.
The Lee Honors College invites qualified community college graduates and students to join the Lee Honors College community. Qualified students have been accepted into WMU and will provide a letter of reference from the director of the community college honors program or academic advisor. Students who have received an Honors Certificate or equivalent from community college, and who maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or greater will automatically be admitted to the LHC Honors College. Students who have not received an Honors Certificate or equivalent, but who have taken at least 9 credit hours in a community college honors program and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or greater will also be automatically admitted to the LHC. Following admission to the LHC, all students will consult with the academic advisor of the LHC to establish and appropriate course of study in the honors college leading to graduation from WMU and the LHC.
