High school students who are accepted to Western Michigan University will receive an automatic invitation to join the Lee Honors College if they have an ACT composite score of at least 26 and a GPA of 3.6. Students will receive a letter of invitation from the honors college a few weeks after their admission to Western has been finalized. Students meeting these criteria do not need to apply for admission to the honors college.
Students who do not meet the automatic invitation criteria may apply for admission to the college by completing an application.
If you believe you meet the automatic invitation criteria and have not received an invitation, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to inquire about your eligibility. Please include your full name, high school name, GPA and intended major.
Current WMU students
At the end of each fall and spring semester, current WMU students are invited to join the honors college community. Students who have completed 12 credit hours and earned a 4.0 in their first semester or have maintained a 3.5 or better for two consecutive semesters will receive an invitation to join the honors college. You must also plan to be enrolled for at least three more semesters before graduation to join. All WMU students who qualify will receive an email with instructions on how to accept the invitation. If you believe you qualify and have not received an invitation, please send an email to email@example.com to inquire about your eligibility. Please include your full name and WIN.
Incoming transfer students
All incoming transfer students with a GPA of 3.5 or better will be automatically invited to join the honors college. Students who do not meet the automatic invitation criteria may apply for admission to the college by completing an application.
Following admission to the Lee Honors College, all students are required to consult with the academic advisor to establish an appropriate course of study leading to graduation from WMU and the honors college.
Lee Honors College program fee
Membership in the Lee Honors College also includes an honors college program fee of $100 per semester each fall and spring. This enables us to offer additional honors-style courses, reduce the number of large classroom courses, attract the highest-quality instructors, and provide opportunities for co-curricular activities outside the classroom that add to your learning and development. In general, the fee is used to enhance your academic experience in the Lee Honors College. Read more about the fee.
