History is basic to college education because it provides knowledge of the past that is essential to any individual’s understanding of his or her role in contemporary society. History promotes analytical skills, the expression of ideas in writing and speech, and encourages students to think critically, including the ability to evaluate sources and draw appropriate conclusions. The History Department’s 33 regular faculty offer students a choice of over 150 courses and three majors, which are designed to meet the needs of our diverse student body.
