About Friday Forums
Friday Forums are designed to enhance student awareness of history as a profession, and to encourage students to use all available resources in the development of their own skills and knowledge as a professional historian. Forums will include presentations, roundtable discussions, question and answer sessions, and occasional visits to libraries or other resources. History faculty, WMU history graduates, current history majors, and history professionals outside the University will join us for commentary and discussions. At the end of each Friday Forum, students will complete and turn in a Friday Forum Response Form to receive a maximum of 10-points toward their Friday Forum grade. In several instances, a short assignment outside of the Forum session is required to receive the maximum 10-points, and must be turned in on the designated due date to receive credit for that Forum. Twelve Friday Forums will be offered during the semester; students will be graded on their ten best Friday Forum Responses (for a composite score of 100 points). There are no make-ups for Friday Forums. Forum response forms and assignments must be turned in at designated times to receive appropriate credit. Throughout the semester, there may be opportunity for students to obtain up to 10 points of Friday Forum extra-credit by attending designated lectures or presentations. Extra-credit opportunities will be announced during the term. Friday Forum Response Forms must be completed and turned in at the end of these presentations to receive extra-credit.
