Signing Up for Classes:
Enrollment for all classes at WMU is done through TouchTone Registration, according to the instructions in the current Course Offerings announcement. Some undergraduate classes (like History 299 Independent Study or History 498 Senior Thesis) can only be enrolled in through consent of the instructor and the Department Chair. First approach a faculty member about such courses. If the appropriate approvals are received, the History Department Office will supply the appropriate Call Number so that the student can register using the TouchTone system.
Information about TouchTone Registration can be found by CLICKING HERE.

History Department policy allows over enrollment only at the discretion of the instructor. You may approach the instructor about this matter, but remember that course caps are set for a reason and many instructors do not elect to over enrolled these courses.
Language Study:
The History Faculty strongly recommends language study above and beyond the minimal requirement we have made part of the major. The language requirement should be fulfilled early in the students program at WMU with a view toward studying abroad before graduation.
Undergraduate Research:
Various opportunities for undergraduate research are offered. Students should make an effort to learn what individual faculty members are doing. There are special awards from the College of Arts and Sciences for work on projects directed by faculty members (see the webpage of the CAS).
Study Abroad:
The History Faculty strongly recommends study abroad while a student is pursuing an undergraduate degree at WMU. There are many opportunities that can be learned about in the Study Abroad Office at B-200L Ellsworth. Study abroad is an increasingly important part of an undergraduate education and is especially recommended to those planning careers in secondary education.
