Research

The Department of History faculty at Western Michigan University produce an average of three to four monographs, 20-25 scholarly articles and 30-40 scholarly presentations per year.

In addition to winning three WMU emerging scholar awards and seven College of Arts and Sciences awards for faculty research in the past nine years, history faculty have been awarded Fulbright, NEH, Guggenheim and ACLS fellowships and have secured more than $5 million in grants since 2003.

Faculty and graduate students conduct research on a wide range of topics, countries and time periods from the classical world to contemporary historical studies. Faculty members share their discoveries in scholarly publications, public exhibits, and the Ernst Breisach Faculty Research Colloquia, which meets monthly.
