South Haven Lighthouse Complex: National Register of Historic Places Nomination
Students from Professor Michael Chiarappa's Winter 1999 Historic Preservation class studied the South Haven lighthouse, piers, catwalk and lightkeeper's dwelling in order to prepare for its nomination as a complex to the National Register of Historic Places.
In August 2000, the South Haven Lightkeeper's dwelling was conveyed to the City of South Haven by the United States Department of the Interior under the Historic Surplus Property (HSP) program. The HSP program application was completed by Professor Kristen Szylvian on behalf of the Michigan Maritime Museum which will continue to lease the Lightkeeper's dwelling from the city. |
