Xiong invited to speak at Stanford
Professor Victor Xiong has been invited to make a presentation at the Stanford University Center for East Asian Studies on April 19. In his talk, "The Rise and Fall of Sui Yangdi", Professor Xiong will examine the rule of the last Sui sovereign Yangdi (r. 604618), one of the most maligned sovereigns in Chinese history, with a focus on his accomplishments and failures in the contexts of politics, society, the economy, religion, and foreign relations.
