Friday January 28. Professor John Monaghan, University of Illinois at Chicago.

Professor Monaghan is author of The Covenants with Earth and Rain: Exchange, Sacrifice, and Revelation in Mixtec Society (1999).

Public Lecture: "Indigenous Nobles and Political Bosses: The Historical Discourse of the Mixteca (1800-2000)," in Knauss Hall Second Floor, 4:00 P.M . (Exact room number to be announced. Call the History Department for details.)

Friday February 4, Professor Aqshin Ceforov, Professor of Law at Baku State University, Azerbaijan.

Professor Ceforov will be speaking on Muslim people’s changing perceptions of the United States. He will be one of a panel of speakers on this topic, to be held at

3:00 p.m. in 210 Bernhard Center. The History Department is a co-sponsor of this event with several other departments and programs.


February 15-16, Professor Ramsay Cook, Emeritus, York University and currently General Editor of Dictionary of Canadian Biography.

Professor Cookis invited by the Canadian Studies Program. He will speak on

Wed. Feb 16, 2005 at 7:00 p.m . in 210 Bernhard Center, on the topic:

“ Canada: A Post-Nationalist Nation.”


March 23-25 Professor David Montgomery, Emeritus, Yale University. Dr. Montgomery will present the H. Nicholas Hamner Lecture.

Professor Montgomery, a widely respected American historian, is author of The Fall of the House of Labor: The Workplace, the State, and American Labor Activism, 1865-1925.

The Hamner Lecture will occur at 7:00 p.m. March 23 Fetzer Center.(Title to be announced.)

There will be a Faculty-Student Seminar at noon March 24, 10 th Floor Sprau Tower.
