Information About Assitantships

The History Department expects to be able to fund 6-10 new Graduate Assistantships in the Fall. For those not enrolled in a graduate program in history, application is made by applying to the History Department for admission and funding; the deadline for all such applications is January 15. Students who have been admitted to an MA program in history without funding or who wish to apply for an extension of funding beyond two years should consult the current Graduate Handbook for application procedures.

Each October, an announcement will be made to current TAs of positions available for Summer I and Summer II. The number of positions is dependent on the course schedule and availability of funds. These awards will be made competitively to current TAs through an application process. The applications will be due November 1.

The History Department also expects to be able to fund 3-5 new Doctoral Associateships in the Fall. For those not enrolled in a graduate program in history, application is made by applying to the History Department for admission and funding; the deadline for all such applicaitons is January 15. Students who have been admitted to a Ph.D. program in history without funding or who wish to apply for an extension of funding beyond four years should consult the current Graduate Handbook for application procedures.

A DAship ordinarily carries with it a teaching assignment in either Summer I or Summer II, so an application is not necessary.
