I teach the second half of American history survey, as well as selected courses on American history in the twentieth century. I have taught a wide variety of courses in the past and have received a teaching award for my efforts with adult students. I have directed eleven doctoral dissertations and several masters and bachelors theses.
Research
My most recent research has focused on the Corps of Engineers and its relationship to the environment. My publications include two books and a monograph, as well as numerous articles and reviews. I have served on the National Board of Consultants for the National Endowment for the Humanities and on the Board of Trustees of the Public Works Historical Society. I have served as a consultant to a number of institutions and have reviewed manuscripts for several journals and publishers.
