Enabling technology (augmentative devices, assistive technology) refers to devices (either hardware or software) that facilitate the activities or goal accomplishments of individuals with disabilities. The laboratory provides a space, with appropriate technology, in which therapeutic intervention and/or clinical training takes place.
Clients or patients, with assistance, develop technology skills or adapt enabling technologies to individual needs. The space is equipped with computer-assistive devices, levers, lifts, switches, and other devices to help people who are visually or communicatively impaired in enhancing communication, activities of daily living, and occupational function.
Persons with cerebral palsy, Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, hearing impairment, deficit from stroke, etc., use the laboratory as an important training area.
