
The assessments address several developmental domains including cognitive/academic, physical, speech/language, social/familial, emotional, and behavioral. They are provided by a team of interdisciplinary professionals from Behavioral Pediatrics, Western Michigan University School of Social Work and the departments of Occupational Therapy, and Speech Pathology and Audiology, Physicians and residents from Michigan State University Kalamazoo Center for Medical Studies as well as graduate level interns from Western Michigan University also function as team members.
A transdisciplinary approach is emphasized to facilitate team collaboration in the overall assessment process and to develop a succinct report and recommendations.
Parents and caregivers are also interviewed for the purpose of obtaining the medical and psychological history of each child. If children are in foster care, parents are interviewed and observed with their children where possible. Child assessments are completed during one 2- to 6-hour onsite visit.
