Marion R. Spear Occupational Therapy Teaching Clinic

The Marion R. Spear Occupational Therapy Teaching Clinic is named after the founding faculty member of our OT program.  Marion founding the original program in 1922 and grew the program from the Kalamazoo State Hospital grounds (on Oakland Dr.) to an academic unit at Western.  Miss Spear served as the program director and department chairman for many years.

The Marion R. Spear Occupational Therapy Teaching Clinic is located in the Unified Clinics building on Oakland Drive.  The clinic provides occupational therapy services to a variety of clients while also providing clinic education opportunities to the students in the occupational therapy program.

Both undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the occupational therapy programs have a unique opportunity to practice their skills in the College of Health and Human Services' Unified Clinics, operated on the university's campus in a new, state-of-the-art facility shared with intern and resident programs attached to Michigan State University (KCMS). The experience is especially valuable because it allows students to work in teams with other students in areas such as speech therapy, audiology, geriatric assessment, vision rehabilitation, and developmental disability. The clinics serve the wider Kalamazoo community.
