Karen Monroe wins 2013 Customer Service Award

Photo of Karen MonroeOffice Associate Karen Monroe can be seen in the halls and rounding the corners greeting others with a warmth that says she is happy to see them. She is genuine, without pretense or forethought of kindness. Kindness is just who she is, and she has the gift of making you feel as if you are the most important person when engaging in conversation.

Additionally, Monroe is intelligent and gracious, approachable and generous with her time. She represents students, faculty, staff and guests in a professional, pleasant and compassionate manner, and she is quick to smile and quick to offer words of support and encouragement. 

Karen "gets things done," said one nominator. "She offers support and problem solving with an eye toward detail that has supported all our programs, faculty, staff and students well."

Said another, "Karen regularly deals with distressed students who do not understand processes or are trying to find a part time instructor or enroll in a closed class. She patiently explains processes and makes sure students know what steps will help resolve their problems."

Monroe is adept at working with multiple academic units and juggling competing priorities. Her work is high quality, and she completes it efficiently and on time. She looks for innovative ways to improve workflow and opportunities to be of greater service to co-workers and other constituents. She goes out of her way to assist others, and "her demeanor and presence make this a better place to work."

In summary, Karen’s nominations and many letters of support presented her as a wonderful, kind, smart person with above average social skills and the ability to think on her feet. Her customer service is outstanding and much appreciated.
