Someone you can trust...
Children with special needs have families with special needs. We understand this. To a parent who acts daily as a teacher, doctor, nurse, advocate, therapist, and
friend, free time is a luxury. We understand this as well. And we know that these patents want to promise their other children they will be at a soccer game, and be able to keep that promise. We know that just a couple of hours a week to shop, read, or catch a movie can leave them ready to take on the world again. To these parents, we say, "Take your time: that's why we're here.
The Alliance for Community Support-- a joint effort by Residential Opportunities, Inc., MRC Industries, and the Center For Disability Services at Western Michigan University---has over ninety years of combined experience in dealing with issues of mental health and disability. Now, we've created a new program, Intermission, with a flexible schedule tailored to meet the needs and parents. Facilitated by three trusted organization with a legacy in the Kalamazoo community, Intermission offer one-on-one and group services, drop-in dates, and monthly activities. And, Intermission staff are supervised and trained in behaviour management, CPR, first aid, medically fragile care, and medication management, so parents can truely take a break without worry.
We know that every child is an individual. We know that every family is unique. Our goal is to make the services we offer to each family different, based on their individual needs and preferences. Families search for a number of attributes when seeking respite services. For the children, they desire well-trained staff who can make respite safe and fun. For themselfs, parents seek a flexible schedule with someone they can trust. The Intermission team is ready to partner with these families to provide respite services that children will enjoy and parents can feel good about.
