Jim Henry receives outstanding social worker award

Dr. Jim Henry

Dr. Jim Henry, professor in the School of Social Work and program director at WMU's Children's Trauma and Assessment Clinic, was the 2016 recipient of the Sue Smith Outstanding Social Worker Award at the 35th Annual University of Michigan Child Abuse and Neglect Conference.

The award is given annually to recognize outstanding leadership, advocacy, and service in the field of child abuse and neglect.

When introduced, Dr. Henry was lauded for his exemplary work in trauma and the work he's done to change systems for maltreated children for their well being.

Dr. Henrry and his team at Southwest Michigan Children’s Trauma Assessment Center has provided clinical trauma assessments for children with trauma histories in 67 out of 83 counties in the state of Michigan. In recent months, they have also collaborated with the Larimer County Department of Human Services in Colorado.
