WINDOWS VISTA

OIT has modified its recommendation for Windows Vista (Microsoft's latest operating system).

OIT's Modified Vista Recommendation

OIT recommends that you wait to install Vista on University production machines until OIT support providers and application support providers are ready to provide support and until business applications are thoroughly tested.

The OIT Help Desk is currently prepared to assist in configuration and support of Windows Vista Computers and support of all level 1 applications (See Level 1 list below).  Level 1 applications are those applications that are critical to our customers whose computers are not part of the University’s production system.

OIT's Hardware Recommendation

OIT's current testing environment suggests that the combination of Windows Vista, Office 2007 and Symantec Anti-virus software runs as specified by Microsoft but it places a high demand on RAM memory.   Under this environment, OIT recommends 2 GB of RAM in order to retain satisfactory operating speeds

Microsoft's Minimum Hardware Requirement

For detailed information and a walk through of Windows Vista, visit Microsoft's Windows Vista Web site.

This web page will be updated periodically as changes occur.
