Student Phone Dialing Instructions

On Campus Calls

Dial the last five digits only.

On Campus Emergency

Dial 911.

Local Calls (off campus/Kalamazoo area)

Dial 9 and then the seven-digit telephone number.

Long Distance Calls (With Calling Cards)

Long distance service is handled by the use of pre-paid calling cards. You may purchase calling cards at the WMU bookstore in the Bernhard Center.

Directory Assistance Calls

  1. Dial 9.
  2. Dial 1 and then the area code.
  3. Dial 555-1212.

800 & 888 (Toll-Free) Service

  1. Dial 9.
  2. Dial 1-800 or 1-888 followed by the seven-digit telephone number.

900 Service

900 numbers cannot be called from campus phones.

International Calls

  1. Dial 8.
  2. Dial 011 + country code + city code + local number.
  3. Note: If your International call is disconnected due to poor transmission within the first minute, immediately call 7-0928 for credit. There must be a call of longer duration immediately following the initial call to the same number in order to receive credit for the disconnected call.

Operator Assisted Calls

Dial 9 + 00 to receive an outside operator.
