If it is your first contact with the Center, or if it has been more than a year since you were last seen, you will be asked to complete an interactive computerized assessment instrument. This process will take about 20 minutes and provide important information that will enable the staff to best meet your needs. After the assessment is completed, an appointment will be scheduled at the first mutually convenient time available.
Please inform the receptionist if your situation requires immediate attention. Special arrangements will be made for you to meet with a counselor as soon as possible.
Some common topics that students talk to us about include:
Simply request an intake interview to help determine your career counseling needs.
On the day of the appointment arrive 10 minutes early to fill out the computer intake information. On the computer intake write in detail why you are seeking career counseling services, whether you are interested in career assessment or not, and what you are looking to get out of career counseling. You will then attend a 1 hour career counseling intake appointment. Besides career counseling, your counselor may be of assistance by providing you with or pointing you toward various resources. If it appears that a career assessment would be beneficial, your counselor will discuss this with you and possibly arrange for you to take the Career Guidance Inventory (CGI).
