Forwarding Suspect Messages
If you have received an email you suspect may be virus or malware-related, the safest, and easiest thing to do is simply delete it. You may, however, forward the message, including headers, to virus-checker@wmich.edu. If the headers are not included, the forwarded message is of no use.
If the message you received is of an abusive nature (stalking, harassing, or compromised machine notice), you may forward the message, including headers, to abuse@wmich.edu. Please do not forward spam messages to either of these email addresses. Note that if your attempt to forward the message is rejected by the email system, its a good thing. That means that the email system is doing its job and is already quarantining any future receipts of that message.
To forward the message, including headers:
Apple Mail

- Forward the message

Prior to forwarding the message you must first modify your preferences to forward the message as an attachment. To do so:
- Within Mail, click Preferences.
- On the left, under Mail, click Composing.
- In the Forward section, click the drop-down and select Include original message as an attachment.
- Click Save.
- You may then forward the message.
You may wish to reverse this procedure after you forward the message since forwarding as an attachment does not allow you the ability to add text to your forwarded message.
