Using PureMessage

PureMessage is a spam and antivirus system used by the University to scan all email and actively quarantine any that has a 50-100% probability of being spam. Any messages that have been quarantined are authomatically purged after 14 days. You may access PureMessage by logging in to GoWMU and clicking the Check My Quarantined Spam link in the My Self Service channel. Once logged in, you may view your blocked messages, delete messages, release messages for delivery, and approve senders so their messages are not quarantined in the future.

Viewing blocked messages

  1. By default, you should see a listing of your blocked, i.e. quarantined, messages when you login to PureMessage. If you do not, simply click Blocked Messages on the left.

  2. To read a message, click the subject of the message you want to view. It will open in a new window. Click the X in the upper right of that window to close it.

Deleting blocked messages

  1. Check the box located next to the message(s) you wish to delete and then click Delete Message.

  2. If you do nothing, PureMessage will automatically delete messages older than 14 days.

Releasing messages for delivery and approving senders

  1. Check the box located next to the message(s) you wish to be delivered to your Webmail Plus mailbox and then click Deliver Message.

  2. If you wish to both have the message delivered and approve the sender so their messages will no longer be quarantined, check the box located next to the message(s) and then click Deliver and Approve Sender.

  3. If you approve a sender and later decide you want to remove them as an approved sender, click Approved Senders on the left. You will see a listing of senders whom you have approved. Just check the box next to their name and click Delete Sender.
