The Graduate Student Advisory Committee works to keep you informed regarding GSAC, The Graduate College, and other Campus events pertinent to your career as a Western Michigan University Graduate Students.
On Thursday 17th, 2014 our Chairperson Damon Chambers was recognized with the Arthur and Margaret Maske Outstanding Master’s Student in School Counseling Award.
This award given to recognize and honor outstanding master’s degree students in school counseling who have demonstrated potential for excellence in the profession. Dr. Arthur Manske was the first counselor educator to be hired in the College of Education. He served as the coordinator of the Counselor education program from 1943 until 1964, and was very active in the field of school counseling and guidance. This endowed ward was first given in 1975 upon the occasion of Dr. Manske’s retirement. His friends and colleagues established the award to recognize Dr. Manske’s significant leadership in school counseling.
In our January 2014 meeting the graduate students present voted to accept a resolution for a name change. Effective July 1, 2014, The Graduate Student Advisory Committee (GSAC) will transition to its new name The Graduate Student Association (GSA). The Constitution and By- Laws will also reflect some structural change as well. Please see under the Resolution bullet the wording that was accepted by the body in January 2014 meeting.
Student Marketing Doctoral Assistantship
Lee Honors College, Western Michigan University
A successful Student Marketing Doctoral Assistant candidate will effectively promote Lee Honors College (LHC) activities to constituencies including current honors students, friends and alumni, prospective students and their families, WMU staff and faculty, and the general public. The Student Marketing Doctoral Assistant will work closely with all LHC staff, including the Dean, Associate Dean, Administrative Assistant, Budget Coordinator, Director of Academic Advising, Academic Advisor, and two Graduate Assistants. We want to thank all the Graduate students who volunteered and supported the National Association of Graduate Professional Students (NAGPS) 27th Annual Conference that was hosted on our campus from November 7 to the 10th, 2013! It was a total success. In addition, We are happy to announce that our current Vice Chairperson Rebecca Sametz has been elected to be NAGPS’ Director of Relations. She will be serving all of us with her competency and expertise, now at a national level.
