Cynda Harris serves as Ambassador for the College of Health and Human Services at Western Michigan University. Harris is currently working towards her doctorate in Audiology at Western. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Pre-Audiology and Bachelor of Arts in Japanese language and culture from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.
Harris received the prestigious Whitinger Scholarship, awarded by Ball State University’s Honors College. During her undergrad, she volunteered her time tutoring students in Japanese, which she carried with her to Japan. She spent 8 months studying abroad in Sapporo, Hokkaido, where she taught English to Japanese students, in addition to her studies. Harris also had the opportunity to visit Rome and London for her Honors Colloquium.
In addition to her Ambassadorship, Harris currently volunteers her free time as an Audiology Tech at a local ear, nose and throat office. She also acts as representative for Western’s Student Academy of Audiology, and is a member of the International Society of Audiology. Her future goals include traveling the world to work as an international audiologist; sharing the knowledge and expertise she has earned from her home country with the world, and gaining a broader understanding of her field to bring back to her dear United States. Harris’ short-term goal is to be accepted into the U.S. Navy’s Audiology Externship Program, serving 4 years of highly sought audiological experience. She will participate in Western’s Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps Program this fall as preparation.
Harris enjoys relaxing to movies and TV in her free time, especially when she can share it with friends and family. Her hobbies include playing the piano, dance, and cooking. She loves going out, exploring, and experiencing new things and cultures.
