Fraternity and Sorority Recruitment

Why "Go Greek" at WMU?

Here are two testimonials from current fraternity and sorority members. Learn about their background, their passion for their chapter, and what they have taken from their experience.

Joelle Fundaro

Class Status: Senior, Graduated Spring 2011
Major: Special Education

"I am from the "little apple" of Michigan (Brooklyn), and my hometown has about two stoplights. As you can imagine, the transition to college was going to be an adventure. I had an incredible orientation leader who talked about Greek Life influenced her life. That fall of my freshman year I took her advice and participated in Formal Recruitment. Being Greek is truly a unique experience! I took a chance and it was one of the best first steps I made as a Bronco here at WMU!"

Matthew Kaminsky

Class Status: Senior, Graduated Spring 2010
Major: Public Relations

"I joined a fraternity after being an orientation student leader. I joined my sophomore year, but I didn't feel like I missed out at all. My first year at Western, even though I was involved in a couple student organizations, I didn't feel connected to the university. A fellow orientation leader brought me to his chapter house and introduced me to the men I now call my brothers. My brothers hold me accountable for my actions. If I didn't have them, I don't think I would push myself as hard to make them all proud. I am a lifetime member. After I graduate, I will still be involved in this chapter. I know I will be able to positively influence all the people who come after me, as the alumni of my chapter have influenced my life."

NPHC & MULTICULTURAL GREEK COUNCIL

Membership intake is the process that NPHC and culturally-based fraternities and sororities utilize to recruit, interview, select, and initiate new members. The period of membership intake varies from chapter to chapter, but generally does not exceed 10 weeks. While each organization sets its own schedule and requirements for membership intake, candidates must typically have a 2.5 or better GPA, hold at least 12 credit hours, and have an extensive appreciation and history of volunteerism.

Please contact each NPHC chapter to find out about their specific intake process.
