Educational Leadership

Master of Arts (MA)

Western Michigan University's Master of Arts (MA) in Educational Leadership prepares leaders for educational organizations, including K-12 schools, higher education, governmental agencies and professional associations and is based on a "Performance Driven Leadership" (PDL) model.

The PDL model guides this comprehensive graduate-level Educational Leadership program, in which students actively participate in a variety of activities designed to prepare them for the challenges faced by today's educational organizations. This degree meets the Michigan K-12 Administrator Certification requirements, NCATE accreditation standards, the guidelines of the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC) and is a Michigan State Board of Education Approved Principal Preparation Program.

Program Benefits

  • Preparation to become a leader in a variety of roles in private and public sectors.
  • Previous graduates of this program hold positions of prominence as principals, superintendents, higher education administrators, and executive directors of nonprofit organizations.
  • WMU maintains strong ties with the field, recently adding the former superintendents of Vicksburg, Marcellus, and Pontiac districts to the faculty ranks.
